Week 10 Term 1 2016

We got a lovely surprise at the end of the term. The residents at the Lawrence House at Te Aroha Hospital had been very busy making bed-socks/slippers and all of the students in Room 7 (and some of the other classes) were allowed to choose a air each to take home. 

We love our socks!

Week 9 Term 1 2016

We have had a busy few weeks, and with Easter in the middle it has been very unusual.  We have been involved with lots of different activities so here are are some of them...

Last week we started doing some cricket sessions with John Muir fro Project Energize.    We have been learning lots about throwing and catching  and working as a team.                 John is here every  week until the end of the term, and we think we are getting really good now!

Just before Easter we had a visit from Ruben the Safety Bear. He came to tell us about how we need to keep safe when crossing the road and when we sit in the car. He even left us some presents to remind us about his message!

Last week we also had another session of Tuakana Teina, but this time it was with the whole school out on the back field. We split into house teams and we had students of all ages in each team! We had a very busy afternoon and had lots of fun trying different activities , while working as a team. There are photos in our newsletter.

Week 6 Term 1 2016

During the past few weeks we have been talking about how we are connected in Room 7.                                                  

While we are all special and unique we do share connections..

through the land,

our families,

our town,

our school,

and our class.

We made a mural to try and show some of these connections and some new words we have been learning.

We each made a pepeha which we can use to introduce ourselves , and to show our connections.

Week 5 Term 1 2016

This week we went to the Beach!

On Friday Rooms 5,6,7,8 and 11 set off for Waihi Beach for our Beach Ed Trip with the Waihi Beach lifeguards.

We had beautiful weather, fantastic parent support and our students were AWESOME!

We participated in a range of activities such as beach races, tug of war, sand creations, CPR, rock pool adventures and at the end of the day…in the water with boogie boards!

A huge thanks to all of the wonderful parents who gave up their time to come with us and help to keep us all (including the teachers…) happy and safe.

Here are some of our memories...

I was on the boards with my friends. I was floating on the waves.               I didn’t fall off!

Calleb

At the beach I played in the sand. I buried my jandals in the sand.

Kerrin

We got the comfy seats. The other bus got the hard seats. We were lucky. It was noisy. The boys and girls were talking.                                      Mrs Finucane got us to play I Spy and I found the train tracks first.

Cooper

I like to ride the waves and I floated on the waves with a boogie board.  

I fell off the boogie board into the water.

Ciana

I saw two rocks at the beach. They were big and I saw water in-between them. I made a sandcastle and Brock mixed it up. I made it again.          The waves came and I did nearly fall over. It was good that I didn’t!

Manav

My mum pushed me to catch some waves and I went really fast.

Hayley

I liked the tug of war.

It was hard work!

I pulled the rope and it hurt my hands.

Rico

  I liked the big waves because they were pushing me.                                  I drank the water and it tasted YUK!

Ayden

I liked the tug of war.

The adults pulled the rope and the children pulled too.

The children won!

Aneiyah

I swam in the little waves on my boogie board. I fell in the dirty water.

Lily

I made a hop scotch out of seaweed. I was helping my nan and my friend. Then we got to play.

Kayla

I loved building sand castles. I worked with Amber and Chloe and we played tug of war.

Calais

The tug of war was best because Mr Byers was in our team.                     It was adults vs. the children, and we won!

We were upstairs and the man was showing us how to save lives.

We were pressing on top of the heart and we had to count to 30.

Laelah Belle

The waves stung my sore leg when I was on the boogie board.                    I was on a red board and we were riding the waves.

Amberlee

I made a kitchen in the sand. I also made a bed in the sand.                       I had lunch with my friends.

Isaac

 We played the lolly game. We got a mint and I put it in my top gum so it didn’t disintegrate as fast. No one else did it and I came first                      in the mint competition, and I didn’t get bus sick!        

Joe

I surfed on the boogie board and the waves were pushing me straight  onto the sand . I went back into the water and a crab climbed on my back. I fell off the boogie board and the board floated up onto the sand.           I went for another swim and I played with Manav in the water.

This week we had the chance to come together for Tuakana Teina.

The meaning of Tuakana Teina- An older or more expert tuakana helps and guides a younger or less expert teina and can be vice versa. 

Getting to know other students in the school is important. 

We got to work with the students from Room 4 and we made lots of connections!

Week 4 Term 1 2016

This Friday our day turned up upside down. Instead of swimming last we got to swim first!

Mrs Finucane thought it might be too cold but the water was really warm...here are some photos to show how great we are at going in, on, and under the water.

TERM 1 2016  Welcome back to school!

Room 7  has a new teacher and a new class this year!

Our Teacher is Mrs Finucane and we are a wonderful group of Year 2 students. We have 4 new students from other schools who have joined our happy team and we are settling into routines and getting ready for learning!
